The scenic drive from Hobart to the summit of Mount Wellington (kunanyi)  is a scenic journey of about 30 to 40 minutes, taking you from city streets to breathtaking alpine views. Pinnacle Road winds through temperate forests and past rocky outcrops, gradually opening up to panoramic vistas of Hobart, the River Derwent, and surrounding mountains. Before heading up the mountain, consider a short detour to Cascades Brewery, located at the base of Mount Wellington. Here, you can enjoy a tasting of their craft beers, explore the historic buildings, and soak up the tranquil forested surroundings. Along the way, there are several short walks and lookout points worth visiting:
Sprent Falls: A short detour leads to this picturesque waterfall, perfect for a quick photo and a gentle stroll.
The Chalet: Historic building with nearby picnic areas and easy walking tracks through the bush.
At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with 360° views over Hobart, the Derwent estuary, and beyond. On clear days, it’s possible to see the Tasman Peninsula and Bruny Island. At the top, enjoy some short walks include: 
Organ Pipes: A short walk from a parking area leads to striking dolerite columns, a unique geological feature.
Huntsman Lookout: Offers sweeping views of Hobart and the Derwent River; a great spot for photography.
The Pinnacle: The summit itself has short walks along the ridgeline, providing 360° views over Hobart, the Derwent estuary, and on clear days, distant peaks and the Southern Ocean.
The road is well-maintained, but weather conditions can change quickly, so be prepared for cooler temperatures and strong winds at the top. On clear nights, the summit is also a prime location for stargazing and, in winter months, offers a chance to glimpse the Southern Aurora dancing across the sky.
